Ulster Society of Women Artists USWA
The UWSA plays a very active role in the visual arts
in Ulster, organizing exhibitions, lectures, demonstrations, outdoor
art-trails, gallery visits and other art-related events. Many of
these are open to the public.
The Society currently has over 100 members
a large proportion of which are professional and semi-professional
artists. Representing a wide variety of styles and media, all members
have been elected to the society on the basis of their skills as
artists.
The objectives of the USWA are:
1. To promote and encourage a high standard of art in Ulster
2. To maintain such a standard in exhibitions that election to Membership
would be seen as a mark of distinction.
3. To seek out and encourage talent.
Since its foundation in 1957 by Gladys Maccabe at her home in Mount
Charles, Belfast, the UWSA has organized at least two exhibitions
per year.
