My pictures are about discovering patterns
within the painting. A style has developed recently that merges
my love of loose watercolours with the need to create intricate
work. Sometimes the patterns are designed before the painting starts
but other times they emerge by themselves in the pen work.

Marine subjects are a favourite and I always try and paint from
life. The depth and colour of water and glass also appeal to me
as do the flow of Art Nouveau and the stylisation of Art Deco.
Ronald Jesty’s
watercolours fascinate me as do the flower and landscape paintings
of Charles Renee Macintosh.
