Irish landscapes
and seascapes
oils in a modern semi-abstract style using thick impasto, often
contrasted with areas of transparent glazes.
Dorothy's paintings, mostly in the Rosbeg, Ardara and Loughros area
of Donegal, are influenced by dramatic changes in weather from the
intense white light of a low winter sun, to the darkest blue of
a storm; the remoteness of an isolated farm on desolate bogland
that stretches to the distant hills of the far horizon only to meet
the threatening sky of yet another storm.

The tactile surface of the painting is of great importance , bringing
as it does, the elements of the countryside closer and drawing the
viewer into the picture in a ‘modernist’ way.
Still life are bold, colourful and expressive and as with landscape,
the surface is the very process of its creation.
